Net Control Assignments
All 2-meter OCRACES ACS nets listed below start precisely at
1900 hours. On the fourth Monday, immediately following the
2-meter net, net control will run a roll-call-only net (no
announcements) on one of the four 70-centimeter repeaters,
followed by a roll call on the 223.760 MHz repeater, and finally
by a roll call on the 52.620 MHz repeater. Net-control stations
are expected to have a strong, reliable signal. Avoid using a
handheld radio. If there is a repeater failure, run the net on
simplex, on the repeater output frequency. If you are running
the net at the Orange County EOC at Loma Ridge on a meeting
night, arrive at the EOC RACES Room by 1850 hours and activate
the net equipment. Use the OCRACES ACS call sign of W6ACS when running
the net from the EOC. If you are running the net at the
Sheriff's Academy on a meeting night, run it from your mobile or
portable station in the parking lot. When
a station checks in, respond only with “Roger” and nothing else
(no city name, no member name, no “Good evening or other
greeting,” and no “Thanks for checking in”). If a called station
does not check in, proceed to the next station. Do not say,
“Nothing heard,” unless you run the net on simplex. After the
initial roll call, when checking in late members, applicants,
and visitors, acknowledge those check-ins with “Roger” and their
call sign, so they know who you are acknowledging (in case of
doubles).
If you are assigned net-control duty and you are not able to
serve, it is your responsibility to find a replacement. If the
assigned or substitute net-control operator does not show up at
net time, any other net member may run the net. The roll call
and preamble are posted on the “Forms” page of the
https://ocraces.org website. After signing out the 2-meter ACS
net, monitor for applicants and visitors who may have questions
regarding County of Orange RACES.
Weekly net reminders are automatically sent via AlertOC text and
email to OCRACES members. Notifications of drills, activations,
and deactivations are sent via various AlertOC deliveries, such
as text, email, mobile phone, work phone, and home phone. As
soon as a member confirms receipt (not required for net
reminders), subsequent delivery methods are stopped.
